Frederick Allen Other Documents

Here are various other documents in the Frederick Allen Collection.

1923 Salvation Army Letter

Sent from 3 Halesleigh Road, Bridgwater, 30th October 1923.

Dear Sir, I would like to express to you, on the completion of your year of office as Mayor of this town, my sincere thanks, not only for your help personally, but for your live interest in all that has to do with bringing joy and happiness into the lives of others. We trust that Mrs Allen and yourself will always have sweet memories of the year when you were the chief citizens of the town. With kind regards from Mrs Albon and myself. May God abundantly bless you and yours.

Yours to serve, Reuben Albon, captain.

1924 Guy Fawkes Carnival

Sent from the British Oil and Cake Mills, the Docks, Bridgwater, May 6th 1924

Alderman F.H. Allen

Dear Sir,

I am instructed by my committee to cordially invite you to accept the chairmanship of the Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival for 1924 and trust you can see your way clear to accept same, as we are unanimously of opinion that a more popular choice cannot be made.

I may say the duties are not very heavy and you can rely on the assistance of the vice-chairman (Mr W.J. Maddocks – who is entering on his 51st years’ service with the carnival) and the officials and committee. We have a committee meeting on Tuesday next, and I trust I shall be able to inform them that you have accepted the chairmanship of our glorious old carnival.

Yours faithfully, S.B. Evett, honorary secretary.

NOTE Allen does not seem to have taken up the position. Harry Munro Ker was chair later that year, but had to stand down on becoming mayor elect.

1927 Town Hall Dinner

Sent from the Town Hall, 7 June 1927.

Dear Mr Allen,

I have just had an interview with Mr Serviour, and we are both particularly anxious that you should be present at Friday night’s Dinner at the Town Hall.

I hope you will do your best to be present, first, because I shall need your support, and secondly, the Members of the Allotments Association throughout the District are very keen on your presence, because of your great interest in the work from its inception.

Yours faithfully, Walter Deacon, Mayor.
