1979 Ceremony of Twinning of Sedgemoor District Council with Schwalm-Eder District, Germany
The District twinning with Schwalm-Eder-Kreis in 1979 would lead in 1992 to the Town of Bridgwater linking with Homberg. With the dissolution of Sedgemoor District Council in 2023 the twinning presumably ended as well. In Bridgwater, this 1979 visit included the council offices in the Priory, a display by the Sea Cadets in the Clare Street Car Park and dinners in the Bristol Hotel and the Royal Clarence.

SOUVENIR OF THE CEREMONY OF TWINNING
1982 Twinning Re-Affirmation between the towns of Bridgwater and La Ciotat
La Ciotat is Bridgwater’s oldest twin, the link being established in 1957. The dissolution of the old Borough in 1974, under which the link had been made, presumably prompted the need for a re-affirmation. Part of these events involved the opening of La Ciotat House in Old Taunton Road, on the site of the old Gas Works. This was a block of 81 flats specially designed for pensioners and single people. It was apparently the first such building built under the housing guidelines of the Department of the Environment. The project was initiated in 1977 by a committee led by Cllr John Graham with the intention of freeing up larger council houses (Western Daily Press 23 June 1982).
