Bridgwater Alfred 2.67, 12 November 1832

Notes from the 12 November 1832 Edition of the Bridgwater Alfred:

Mrs Philipps has returned from London with the latest fashions, including millinary, dresses and cloaks, with many other items of clothing, headwear and footwear. She now needs a dressmaker to help as well. D Philipps has also returned with gents’ items. Mrs Philipps was mentioned back in May in the Alfred, so was presumably making regular visits.

Mr Clifford Gill mentioned as Bridgwater agent for the Clerical, Medical and General Life Assurance Society.

Description of electioneering in Bridgwater. Also a poem contributed specifically for the Bridgwater Alfred ‘The Voice of Our Country’ by ‘A County Elector’.

Festivites described at Stogursey and Fairfield for the christening celebrations for the daughter of Sir Peregrine Palmer Acland. Mentions of triumphal arches in the village, and a grand ball in Fairfield House.
