Somerset County Herald, 30 March 1963 Former librarian dies

Mr Gerald Dominic Cuzner, 73, borough librarian of Bridgwater for 32 years until his retirement in 1956 died suddenly at his home, 13 Woodberry Road.

A native of Frome and a batchelor, he served in France in the First World War,  and took up his appointment in Bridgwater Library in January 1924, succeeding the late Mrs Butler. In those days the Library was run by Mr Cuzner and the help of a part-time gardener.

During Mr Cuzner’s time volumes in stock increased from 5,000 to 15,000. In 1926 he was made curator of the Blake Museum, and later completely reorganised it. When he retired he was succeeded by Mr Angus Dunn.
